1:48 scale kits - Hasegawa F-2 (FS-X), Zhengdefu Ching Kuo (IDF)
These are kits of aircraft whose design was derived from the F-16. |

In the early 1980s Japan started the FS-X (Fighter Support - Experimental) program
to develop a new fighter for the Japanese Air Self Defense Force (JASDF).
Ultimately Japan industry partnered with General Dynamics to develop a new fighter based on the F-16.
Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) of Japan was the prime contractor.
The first flight of the XF-2A was in 1995.
In 2003 Hasegawa released an all new kit of the Mitsubishi F-2, the production version of the FS-X development program. Kits are highly detailed with engraved panel lines, complete intake trunking and full depth exhaust burner. The larger F-2 wings feature separate leading edge flaps (LEFs) and trailing edge flaps (TEFs). Detailed cockpit features the unique F-2 instrument panel, control stick and throttle, and a pilot figure. The three-piece canopy can be positioned open or closed. |
| Taiwan's Indigenous Defense Fighter (IDF), called the Ching Kuo, was designed by Taiwan with engineering support from General Dynamics, and the F-16 influence is immediately apparent. |
