--------------------------------------------------

Hi, there, everybody!

Seven more days until TODDLER appears on my doorstep and then floods the country with enthusiastic childlike joy!

Thanks for all your happy wishes and cheer concerning my two CDs being in the running for the Grammies...unfortunately, they didn't make the final cut, so don't expect to see me running up the steps the night of the big event! Don't feel bad...I look silly in sparkly dresses, anyway. ;)

It meant so much to me to receive all of your enthusiasm. BUT...don't give up...someday I will make y'all proud! And I will be SURE to thank you for helping my music receive such a prestigious award...

I hope all is well with each of you...

Joyfully,

Sara

2001 AUSTIN MUSIC POLL

http://www.auschron.com/musicpoll/

Hey, Sara the Pooh didn't make it to the final Grammie nominations, but you can help her in her own hometown of Austin, Texas!

Every year the Austin Chronicle, the local cool weekly publication, puts out a ballot for people to vote for their favorites in the local music scene. Well, guess what- people can now vote on the internet! AND, you don't have to LIVE in Austin to vote. Yep, what I am saying, and asking is that if you have the time and inclination, can you visit the website and cast some votes for Sara? You don't have to fill every ballot blank, and, best of all, there's none of that chad nonsense!

You have until February 1, 2001 to submit an eBallot. ---that's 9 days!

You have to fill out some personal info (address, email, phone number) so you can't "stuff" the ballot and vote several times, but then again if enough people participate, stuffing isn't necessary! :o)

You can vote for Sara in the following catagories:

AUSTIN MUSICIAN OF THE YEAR

AUSTIN SONG OF THE YEAR

AUSTIN ALBUM OF THE YEAR ("Spiritual Appliances")

POP

FOLK

SINGER-SONGWRITER

FEMALE VOCALS

ACOUSTIC GUITAR

SONGWRITER

RECORD PRODUCER (Sara Hickman for "Spiritual Appliances")

COVER ART (Sara Hickman for "Spiritual Appliances," or Sara Hickman for Tish Hinojosa's "Sign of Truth" -Sara's Graphics arm, "stingray" did both of those),

...and, last but not least,

TEXAS MUSIC HALL OF FAME (write-in) ;o) -or vote on Gretchen Phillips (Sara and she were in their first band together in high school, and she also sings on TODDLER!), Sarah Elizabeth Campbell, or just ANYbody! ;o)

(If you know the Austin music scene, you can, of course, fill in other musicians and bands in these and other catagories, too )

To view last year's Austin Music Awards you can go to: http://www.austinchronicle.com/issues/dispatch/2000-03-17/music_feature8.html

Sara Hickman eNewsLetter April 1, 2001

--------------------------------------------------------------------

So, it's April Fool's Day, a perfect time for A note from Sara. But here's where the tomfoolery comes in - Sara isn't writing this newsletter! Oh no! Yepper, this is a newsletter from Sara's Mailing List WiseGuy. Seems that Sara phoned me and is a bit sicky-pooh right now, so she is taking some down-time to build her strength for her mini tour.

Oh, you lucky people, Sara is coming to a town near you! Don't forget to make plans to see Miz Hickman this time around, because she is so excited about some things happening to her. First off, she is in an article by Bruce Kluger (page 87) in the recent (April 16, 2001 edition) US Weekly (Julia Roberts/"Oscar Fashion" cover, not a Tom Cruise cover as previously believed - see what happens when a favorite wins an Academy Award!!) and secondly, BigKids Video wants to make a half-hour video of her children's-related album, "Toddler" .. and lastly, Sara won the Texas Lottery!!! Well, okay, that last bit about the lottery was a big fat April Fooley, but the previous stuff is true and makes Sara all giddy with happiness... which means that her upcoming shows ought to be a sensation!

Here's Sara's schedule for the next few weeks:

---------------

Mon. April 2, 2001 Ann Arbor, MI

Sara at The Ark--TOMORROW!!!!

---------------

Wed. April 4, 2001 Appleton, WI

Sara goes to the land o' cheese & goodness to play at the Appleton Public Library. Maybe check out a few books, too!

---------------

Thur. April 5, 2001 Chicago, IL

Schuba's -the best lil' place in the Windy City!

---------------

Fri. April 6, 2001 Troy, MI

Listening Room at Kensington Church

---------------

Sat. April 7, 2001 Indianapolis, IN

The Rehearsal Studios, Rehearsal Studio Productions Inc

---------------

Sun. April 8, 2001 St. Louis, MO

Generations Nightclub

---------------

Sat. April 22, 2001 Ft. Worth, TX

Ft. Worth Main Street Festival

---------------

So get a babysitter, bring all of your friends an co-workers and make plans to give Sara a big.. ummm... AnnArborAppletonChicagoTroyIndianapolisSt.LouisFt.Worth welcome!

Hey, how about ...the first person to get Sara to sing "The Kayaking Song" in one of her out-of-town concerts will get a Toddler Video (out later this year???Early next year???) from me! You're on your honor here, so I'm relying on your and Sara's word! You can reach me in care of this e-mail address: (SaraHickman@aol.com)

Just a short email from the Annoying MailingList Wiseguy...

Sara is finally back in Texas from a glorious, almost 2-week tour promoting her songs, especially her new personal cd release, "Toddler."

Then it hit her... she didn't have the traditional "cd release party" for "Toddler" at all!

So, to make up for that, this coming Saturday, April 21, 2001 at 1:00pm, at the Umlauf Sculpture Garden and Museum in Austin, Texas, Sara will finally celebrate her release of "Toddler" with a cd release show! Yippee!

Here's the info:

where: Umlauf Sculpture Garden and Museum

605 Robert E. Lee Road (near Zilker Park, off Barton Springs Road)

Austin, TX

Date: Saturday, April 21, 2001 --yikes! THIS weekend!

Time: 1pm

So come one, come all! And be sure to bring your toddlers! ;o)

Hello, Kitty Cats!

This is Sara trying to catch up with each of you! How have you been? How was your Easter/Passover/Spring Holiday? I was fortunate to actually meet the REAL Easter Bunny this year. He's about 6' 2'', and he was fuzzy with white fur. I gave him a giant carrot and he handed me a basket of goodies for the girls. Wow. He's a mysterious dude!

So much is going on, my head has been in a bit of a whirl! Thanks for your patience!

-----

First, thanks to everyone on my recent 8 day tour up in Illinois, Wisconsin, Michigan, Missouri and Indiana. To all the volunteers who helped out, your support means more than I can say. And to my angelic friend, Amiti, who took eight days off from work and drove the whole tour with me. We had a blast and saw some beautiful sights. Here are some highlights:

* In Wisconsin, there is a restaurant called SCHREINERS and you simply MUST go to one and try their cinnamon rolls. FORGET ANY OTHER CINNAMON ROLLS you have ever eaten. THESE ARE THE REAL DEAL. And all the waitstaff wear matching, crisp uniforms and say "Thank You". LOVE THAT!

* I am going to invest in a bumpersticker that reads OH, BOY! TROY! because that is how I feel about The Kensington Church in Troy, Michigan. I have been performing for 30 years, and let me say I felt such great love, respect and joy performing at this venue---a 1200 seat church with full production facilities---think of a mixture of Austin City Limits meets Carnegie Hall. Just fantastic!

* The Public Library in Appleton, Wisconsin was also nothing short of pure pleasure! The soundman was awesome, the audience was enthusiastic, and we were all sitting in a basement! Plus, we could be as noisy as we wanted AND we were in a library! Unbelievable! Thanks to Elizabeth Eisen for bringing me to lovely Appleton...and it turns out Elizabeth was my baby sitter back when I was three and living in Dekalb, IL!!! Plus, the Paper Valley Hotel in downtown Appleton ROCKS!!! It has a GIANT pool, work out facility (which, yes, I used!) and a yummy sauna.

* Indianapolis---after getting lost for three hours and finally locating the facility, THE REHEARSAL STUDIOS, I was delighted to discover that George would be running sound. He was the sound man on the Dan Fogelberg tour, so I was definately ready to go up on stage and sing sing sing! Thanks, George, for making me sound like I had a band! And Barbara Kessler opened and she is stellar...if you have never heard her, check her out.

* Generations in St. Louis was super, and I sang a special birthday song to Jim...I pretended I was Marilyn Monroe, so just let your imaginations run wild with that one.

* The ARK in Ann Arbor and the Schuba's show were fun, too, I just don't have any weird stories to share on these shows.. except that I got to see Tom and Jeri and Tracey and Laura, and that was a treasure.

---------

I missed my kids and my husband terribly, and I was very glad to land safely back in Austin. Although, I must admit, now I miss the blue Ford Explorer I was driving...wow, what a car. (This is not a paid Ford endorsement, I'd just never driven a SUV before. Now I understand the charisma!)

Ok...enough Sara babble! Here's what's coming up:

-------

This week I'm honored to be recording "Listen to the Radio", a Nanci Griffith song, for her upcoming compilation CD to help raise funds to remove land mines. I'll let you know more in the future about when it will be released. Sounds like there are going to be all kinds of groovy artists on the disc...from Hootie & the Blowfish to Bruce Springstein (whoa!) to little ol me.

The New Ulm Art Festival (New Ulm, TX) will be this weekend, April 28...I'll be singing on the baseball diamond again this year...I usually play around 7...and I always start with the National Anthem...plaaaaay ball!

May 4...Lily B Elementary, Arlington, TX...performing for the children

May 5...The Open Door, Arlington, TX

May 7....Grammies in the School...Austin, TX...1-5 pm, I'll be on the panel talking about the music industry/performing...

May 13...Mothers' Milk Bank Concert, Waterloo Park, Austin, TX...12-8 pm...free outdoor concert to benefit the Milk Bank...with Brave Combo, Kelly Willis, me, Eddie Coker Foamy, and Rue La La. THIS IS REALLY FUN, come if you can and celebrate your mom!

May 17...Dallas, TX...All Good Cafe, 2934 Main St., 214-742-5362 (this is a new place, so I thought I better put all the scoop)

May 18...Richardson, TX...Wildflower Show

May 19...I'll be painting a mural at the Dallas YMCA

May 20...Dallas, TX...Club Dada, 214-744-dada...I'll be doing a children's show from 2-4pm to celebrate the release of TODDLER

May 24...Chuy's, San Antonio

May 27...Kerrville, TX...Kerrville Folk Festival...

May 29-31...I'll be teaching at the Kerrville Songwriting School...!

June 2...Houston, TX...The Mucky Duck

June 13...Austin, TX...THe Austin Childrens' Museum, 11:30 am...Childrens' show

In the fall, I will be coming to Colorado, Michigan, Maryland and returning to the Wolftrap in DC! We're also hoping to do Mountain Stage Radio...

Lastly, if anyone would like to volunteer to help with the Mothers' Milk Bank Concert, we need volunteers. Please contact Sarah Emery at sarah@mmbaustin.org to sign up!

--------

Thanks for all you do, and look out...I'm gonna make a dance record called SPELUNKAPHOBIA!!!!

Joyfully,

Sara

Hey, Kitty Cats!

This will be a short one so you can get back to the beach or your chocolate shake or whatever summer indulgence you are enjoying!

This weekend I will be up in the NorthEast...please come out and support me because you know how shy I am! I base repeat performances in far away cities on the amount of enthusiasm the audience presents! So, if you add up shy and no audience, I will be one cryin' kitten. Although I will still sing my guts out if there is only one person in a chair enjoying my tunes...

Hello, Kitty-Cats!

Well, I'm back from Philadelphia, Boston, Sudbury and the Newport Folk Festival in gorgeous, historic Newport, RI! And what a trip it was! Keep scrolling if you'd like to read about it...if you'd just like the facts, ma'am, scoot past the storytelling...

---------000---^---^---000---------

Briefly:

In Philly, I played at the Tin Angel. A really fun guy named Scott McClatchy opened for me with his two sidekicks...at the end of my show, they came up and joined me and we had a swell time jamming and singing. Although there were only fourteen people and two large giraffes in attendance, we had an awesome evening!

Then on to Boston after a long, lonely and LOST drive. Not only did I have to sit in traffic outside NYC for nearly four hours (thank goodness I brought a backpack full of tapes), but, boy, did I have to pee. What's up with that? Why do we always have to pee when you know there is no where to go? Hmm. This could be a Loudon Wainwright song, I think. Anyhoo, right outside Boston it started to rain. Hard.

The defroster in my car wouldn't work (so it was nice and steamy on the front windshield) and then Matt, the very nice human who was guiding me into Club Passim via my cell phone, was just about to give me the crucial info on the final turns when my car phone went dead. Try asking for directions in the middle of Boston during a rain storm in the middle of cars that will not STOP.

Well, finally I just let go and used my intuition and was guided to the club where there was no parking and my hair was looking like a wet poodle and after 10 hours in the car I was supposed to be on stage in forty minutes!!!.

BUT! There was Jenny Reynolds, who was about to go on stage, who graciously brought me hot cocoa, helped me plug in my hair dryer, and got the audience into a jazzy state of mind! She was a complete angel. So, a moment of silence in honor of kind souls who show up just when we need them most! By the way, Jenny also taped the show for me...which was really an outrageous time, so perhaps someday, say, if anyone wanted a copy of, say, "Sara Hickman live at Club Passim in Boston after her day of TERROR", well, I think I could make that happen...

Then...ah...a nice pleasant drive after the show to Sudbury, MA where I fell into a long sleep and relaxed the next morning at the lovely home of Neale and Laurie Eckstein. I actually stayed in bed until noon like a real rock star (remember: I have two children. This means I get up at 6:30 everyday. WA-HOO!

I was LAZY!!!) Swam in a pool. Preened. Tuned my guitar. Time for the house concert! LOADS OF FUN! And what a house concert! Lights! Camera! Action! Cookies that spelled out words!

Lastly, the next big day. Off to play the Newport Folk Festival. I was nervous. I was amped. I was expecting the best of times, the worst of times. Again, I got lost on the drive, and again, a necessary angel appeared at a tire store and drew me a map and saved the day. The show was me, Rory Block, Kate McDonnell and sweet Mary Lou Lord. From the stage I could see lots of people, lots of sailboats, blue sky...we picked up our guitars and the show was on! Get back! I can only say I wish all of you could have been there. There was one moment where I almost BLEW UP from enthusiasm---mine and the crowds. All the women on stage were astounding, and our energy level was KA-BOOM! Zowie!!!

---------000---^---^---000---------

Ok. Now, here's what's up:

This Sunday, August 26, there will be an auction on E-Bay of a lovely fifty year old Kay guitar that I decorated in honor of the Mothers' Milk Bank of Austin. All the proceeds will go to help premature infants through the MMB. My lovely assistant, Mike, will insert the info you need to know about the auction here:

[ahem]--------

The auction will be held August 26, 2001 thru September 2, 2001 starting about 8:00pm Central time.

The guitar is a Kay guitar manufactured in Chicago, IL. in 1948. It is made of laminated maple. Its neck is poplar. Its original bridge, tailpiece and pickguard were lost long ago. It is refinished by Chris Jenkins. In order to make it more playable, an adjustable truss rod has been added to the neck, the original fingerboard has been replaced with an ebony one, and a new ebony bridge has been fashioned. Also, a new chrome tailpiece and new chrome Grover tuners have been added. A Kent Armstrong humbucker jazz pickup has been installed for a great sound when the guitar is plugged in.To spruce up its looks, a new pickguard of macassar ebony has been made, and the peghead overlaid with mascasser ebony to match. Singer-songwriter, Sara Hickman, has added decorative paintings to the back and front to celebrate the Mother's Milk Bank at Austin. After Sara finished her paintings, the entire guitar was covered with a new lacquer finish. It comes with a beautiful lined hardcase, which has a locking mechanism you can personalize. It has a small flying bluebird painted on the front. The back is a greenish/paisley background painting with a large newborn baby painted on it, the symbol of the Mother's Milk Bank at Austin.

All proceeds benefit the Mothers' Milk Bank at Austin, so the winner of this auction can also indicate it as a charitable contribution as well.

Hey, Everybody!

GOOD NEWS!

I am so thrilled to announce that NEWBORN and TODDLER have both been the recipients of recent awards!

NEWBORN won the GOLD from NAPPA (National Association of Parenting P ublications Awards), and TODDLER won in two categories from the Dr.Toy Awards : One of the Top 10 Audio Recordings of 2001 and also 1 of the Top 100 Toys of 2001.

Gee, this makes it official. I'm a real live kids' artist now! Hallelujah! I can put little round stickers all over the furniture!

Also, I'm writing to remind everyone of the guitar auction on eBay. If the guitar doesn't go with the baby painting, I will be happy for someone to bid gadzooks of money on it and I will paint whatever you like anywhere/all over it.

I really want the Austin Milk Bank to get a nice check. Just think...you could help newborn babies, and I could paint YOUR portrait on the guitar! Or your mom! Or your favorite president! Whatever you like! See, I'm not ashamed to grovel for my favorite charities!!! Anyhoo, the auction closes today(!) at 8:45pm Central time, and thanks to everyone who has already visited the site! Here's the url: http://cgi.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1459708962

OK...in the next couple of weeks, I'll be at:

Dear Ones,

My two little children, my husband and I were all eating at a tiny diner in Colorado Springs on Tuesday morning when we saw the second plane fly into the World Trade Center. I don't think I need to tell you the thoughts and feelings that followed. I know each and every one of you felt the same way.

I just feel sick. I feel shaken. I feel scared. But I want to feel strong for my children.

I want to send love and comfort to each of you. I know this is just an email. I know my arms can't reach around the world. But I will continue to try to create music and live shows that spread hope, love and inspiration for all of us that believe we can save this amazing, beautiful world and all humanity from self-destruction.

God bless you tonight, tomorrow and every day,

Sara

Hello, Super Pals!

First, thank you for all the correspondence I've received about the state of our world. So many of you have emailed and written with words of wisdom and love, and I wish I could write each of you back. I feel blessed by your enthusiasm and encouragement, and even your nudges when you think I am too naive. I promise to keep doing my part to bring light where darkness seems determined to conquer.

I continue to pray for peace.

I continue to pray for more communication and understanding between all peoples.

I will continue to believe that serious, long term issues can find a way to be resolved through mediation instead of bombs and endless threats.

It feels odd to tell you what is up with me after such a serious opening, but I must go forth and share thoughts and events from the Super Pal Universe...

1) The Newborn CD won the Parents Choice Award. I jumped with joy when I got the news. Then I jumped some more...!

2) The Kerrville Cruise has been cancelled...

3) This Sunday, November 4, is the Race for the Cure here in Austin. I will sing the National Anthem at 7:55 am, then run the race (a 5K) and then come back for an after race show. Come run with me. I would love to see you.

4) "Just One Race" is a single song CD I just recorded last month with Charlie Sexton and The Greater Mt. Zion Baptist Church Choir. The CD is available at Waterloo Records (Austin) or at www.austinraceforthecure.org. It is a song I wrote for the Race, and all the proceeds will go to the Komen Foundation to help with breast cancer research. Please buy one and support this great cause. They are only $5 and the song will make you feel very HOPEFUL.

5) SLEEVELESS records (my very own label) will be re-releasing EQUAL SCARY PEOPLE and the first DOMESTIC SCIENCE CLUB CD. More on this soon. Also, I will be releasing a limited CD version (1000 copies only) of READY TO POP, a live recording I made at Caravan of Dreams/Ft. Worth when I was 8 months pregnant with my first child.

6) The Christmas CD is coming along wonderfully. There will only be 1000 of those as well. Thanks to the 350 people who have already sent in their checks. Wow!

7) Thanks to ELIXIR strings for the string endorsement!

8) This Thursday, November 8, I will be at Doughtery Arts Center to do a twenty minute performance during Carl Anderson's Christmas show. All proceeds with help Austin Hospice. Come out and enjoy the show..

9) To everyone who came out to Wolftrap, Mountain Stage and the Ramshead ...what a fun, emotional time we had. Bless you for coming out and laughing/crying with me.

Ok...that's all for now! I'll try to respond to each of you, but thanks again for your patience.

With love and respect,

Sara

dear kitty cats...

on december 6 i will be doing a special show in santa rosa, california. the venue is called the paradise ridge winery. the address and phone number will be at the end of this letter...

my friends from college days, suzanne and tom allen, are two of the sweetest people you could ever meet. unfortunately, they have had to endure some horrific tragedies in recent years.

their only child, gracie, was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia when she was nineteen months old. she has been undergoing 26 months of daily chemotherapy. both of gracie's parents have missed tremendous amounts of work and have incurred huge debt. due to gracie's compromised immune system, she will need one more year of in-home care before she can have daily exposure to other children. as you can guess, this is another expense that must be fulfilled.

i am hoping to fill the rafters with love, music and donations at this december 6 concert. every penny raised from the evening will go to help care for gracie.

so, if you live in the area, or have friends and family who would like to come hear uplifting music, bid on a silent auction, enjoy good food and a beautiful venue, please tell them about this night.

thank you so much!

hello, everyone!

just a quick update on life in general around the super pal universe of sara hickman!

1) the christmas cds will be here on december 12, and i will mail them out immediately...thanks to everyone who has bought one (or several---wow!). the songs included are: have yourself a merry little christmas, silent night, the last month of the year (a rousing old time gospel number with me, guy forsyth, wammo and kristin de witt), frosty the snowman, angels among us, santa claus is coming to town, the reason we have christmas in the world and kiss this christmas goodbye (my first time to write a christmas song!!!). the artwork is beautiful, inside and out, created by my five year old daughter! angels, trees, christmas carolers, and a drawing of baby jesus in a crib. so sweet! again, they are only $12 (that includes the p & h)

2) READY TO POP CD will also be available on dec. 12. it is the only available live recording, taken from a bootleg of me when i was 7 months pregnant in 1996. it is truly wacky and wonderful, and was previously only released in a limited 250 cassette version. these are $15...

3) boxes of goods have been shipped to the romanian orphans...thanks to everyone who sent monies and goods...i still plan on going on my 40th birthday, but realized with christmas right around the corner and the recent september 11th tragedies, these children would not be receiving much this year for the holidays and it was breaking my heart.

4) Sara Hickman Christmas Cards! 8 to a package with beautiful illustrations on front and back by little ol' me...they are $12 (plus $1.50 p & h) and they come with white envelopes. Part of the proceeds go to the SIMS foundation which helps musicians with depression/chemical dependency get counseling. i only have about 12 packages left cuz i've been selling them at my shows...

5) upcoming show reminders:

just added: BUDAFEST --10 am , kids show after the parade! Buda, TX, main street saturday, DEC 1

SAN MARCOS--Dec 1...9:00 pm...outdoor patriotic/seasonal/children and adult songs by sara and kristin

Private Party--Dec 2, Dallas

SANTA ROSA, CA--Dec 6 Benefit for Gracie Allen at the Paradise Winery

WICHITA , KS---Dec 8 benefit for the local NPR radio station at a beautiful hall I can't think of the name of at this moment...eek.**

AUSTIN, TX---Sat, Dec 15---with Will Taylor's String Quartet...at Hyde Park Methodist Church, 40th and Speedway...childcare provided for $5! wow.

AUSTIN, TX---December 23, Austin Music Hall, Armadillo Christmas Bazaar

EARTH ---December 25, --MERRY CHRISTMAS and love and kindness and keep that good will shining bright, my friends!

ATLANTA, GA---Dec 28, Eddie's Attic...come out for two shows...children's show and adult show later in the evening!

Oh, also, to answer questions about EQUAL SCARY PEOPLE re-release and the DOMESTIC SCIENCE CLUB first recording re-release... ESP will have the original art, original song order and the original mixes...it was also host the original recording of TAKE IT LIKE A MAN which was removed from the ELEKTRA release of ESP. This version has me playing the B3 Hammond organ and it is waaaay groovy...also, all male musicians, unlike the all female line-up that occurred on SHORTSTOP...

DOMESTIC SCIENCE CLUB will have all 10 original songs, unlike the edited version released on DISCOVERY. The artwork will have some slight changes due to the fact the Discovery cannot find the original artwork, so my sweet husband Lance has worked day and night to make it right.

Both of these recordings should be out before Christmas, too, as we are scurrying to finish the last touches on the artwork. Thank you for your enthusiasm and patience!

SAN ANTONIO, TX---Int. Folk Cultural Center

Then comes New Year's Eve and I will be saying a giant prayer for all of us to have a year full of our heart's desires and peace and more peace.

Love,

sara

Dearest Friends of the Super Pal Universe!

I am giving you a hug right now. No, don't turn away. Oh, sure, perhaps we don't know each other well, but consider this a universal hug of love. {{ There. }} Ah. Didn't that feel nice?

Thank you to everyone who has sent money for the Tanner Romanian Mission ...I have sent them over $650 for this Christmas...! And to everyone who helped Gracie Allen, whether financially or with gifts in kind, bless you, too. We had a wonderful turnout and know that you are bringing hope to a wonderful little girl.

Here it is, Christmas almost upon us, and Dawn (my lovely assistant who has replaced Carol Merrill) and I are sipping hot chocolate as we frantically wrap and send your Christmas CDs...oops! Sorry, Dawn, I spilled more hot chocolate on you. Eek.

So...the CDs are all in the mail to you, if you have ordered before 8:30 a.m. Texas time, Dec 18 (that was the last run to the post office to gather orders). We will continue to fill orders, but please feel free to keep the spirit of love going all year should your order arrive the day after Christmas/Kwanzaa/Hannukah ends...because WE LOVE YOU ALL DAY, EVERY DAY here at the Super Pal Universe, even if you don't finish your peas!

Peas! It's never too late for PEAS!!!

Ok...so, here is some news about the CDS...

The EQUAL SCARY PEOPLE are in, however, this first run is missing the name/title on the SPINE, so consider yourself in a groovy position of A) getting to write your own cool notes on the spine of the jewel box with a permanent marker and B) having a unique collectible that will be rectified in the next run.

THE DOMESTIC SCIENCE CLUB cds are in...I think they are all just fine.

The READY TO POP cds are in...and they have reversible covers...you can put the side with me 8 months preggers and containing all the info out for your friends to see, or flip it for a surprise, lovely photo of me & baby! BECAUSE I CARE ABOUT YOU AND YOUR CHILDREN (or your neighbors children, or any children you might have running about) LET IT BE SAID right here that there is some Texas style a-cussin' on READY TO POP and I advise adults only to listen to this CD. I will let you be the judge of who the adults are in your family...

I'm very excited to announce that I will be in a new national commercial for HALF PRICE BOOKS. I even have an official title (but no crown...yet!): NATIONAL AMBASSADOR OF READING.

Yes, I will be flown about the country to your neighborhood Half Price Books to perform in-store for kids, reading and singing, and also going to the local hospitals to perform for children. It is to encourage kids to read, and also for people to donate books to the Half Pint Library drive...libraries built in hospitals and schools to help children have BOOKS!!! I'm very honored and excited that I was asked to be a part of this program because A) it recycles and B) most importantly, it helps promote reading to children and helping children to read to themselves. Hurray!

I'll be going in the studio January 2 to record a special CD called FAITHFUL HEART, a collection of love songs...for Valentine's Day. And all year!!! (Am I starting to sound like I work for Hallmark??)

This Saturday (Dec 22) I'll be on FOLKWAYS with Jim Caligiuri on 90.5 FM (Austin, TX)...and on Sunday (Dec 23) I'll be at the Armadillo Christmas Bazaar from 12:30 to 3:00...

If you are in the Austin area and would like to come by the ARC on Dec 31, I will be strumming and singing to the homeless during the thermal underwear delivery. Last year was a sweet time spreading love and joy, so we'd love to have you come lift your voices with us.

Into the new year we go, and I have great faith in each of us. I believe, I believe, I believe.

Merry Christmas,

With love,

Sara Hickman
